DePaul falls to Cleveland State in overtime thriller
By Sean Schultz
It wasn’t a game many pundits expected to be close, most thought DePaul had the upper hand. But a Cleveland State team stacked with talent came in with nothing to lose and fueled by energy from their bench to give the Blue Demons a run, ultimately handing DePaul the loss 90-83 in overtime. Cleveland’s Destiny Leo led the Vikings with 22 points, 5 assists, 2 steals, and a block. Aneesah Morrow had an incredible career night for DePaul with 42 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and a steal.
Despite that amazing performance, the Blue Demons just couldn’t get it done. The team also announced that star guard Jade Edwards tore her ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season. When I asked HC Doug Bruno about the effect her loss may have had mentally on the team he told me “There are no excuses, it's an execution issue and not an energy one”. Despite this Bruno who always has been known for his incredible coaching and backing up his players is confident in their ability to shake this off, learn from it and bounce back going forward and no doubt in our minds either.
